ALIGARH September 7: The UGC Academic Staff College, Aligarh Muslim University organized a visit of participants of Orientation Programme to Mother Teresa Home run by Missionaries of Charity in the Jamalpur locality, Aligarh. Dr. Reshma Jamal, Academic Staff College faculty member and coordinator of the Orientation Programme escorted the teacher participants. Sister Aan Maria received all the participants with warmth and affection and took them around the campus. The charity home, consisting of four separate sections for orphaned children, old age people, special need children and women, provides shelter to about 60-65 people. Sister Rosina M.C. guided and introduced the participants to people of different sections and conducted an interaction between children of the Home and the visiting teachers. Radha, Angle and Vishal were among some of the orphans who showed great zeal in interacting with participants. The team also visited the section for mentally retarded people in all age groups and felt moved to see that some of the children were kept in cages for their personal safety. In the old age people’s section, most of the inmates were bed ridden while some of them suffered from various kinds of infectious diseases. The Charity Home, however, provided adequate medical facilities for the patients and provided full personal care. Apart from rendering medical facilities, the Charity Home provides proper educational facilities to the children within the centre and several of them are sent to schools outside. The charity home is striving for the uplift of poor, destitute and underprivileged irrespective of caste, creed or religion. It is noteworthy that the organization run by Missionaries of Charity, provides services mostly to Muslims and represents a live example of secularism and tolerance in the society. The guiding principle, “Service to Humanity is Service to God”, adopted by the Missionaries of Charity, provided an impetus to the visiting teachers. (Zeeshan Ahmad) Assistant Public Relations Officer
